Minnie Riperton’s first album – produced by Charles Stepney of Earth Wind and Fire fame – is Come to My Garden. GRT Records is the first printing or pressing of this album. The company (GRT) failed as a business, and the master recordings of this important album – WERE DESTROYED. That they were destroyed is critical, because the closest you can get to the sound that Riperton, Rudolph and Stepney intended: is this promo copy. Everything else thereafter was a copy of a copy of copy.. One song came from this album – Les Fleurs – that has been used by Hollywood film directors (Jordan Peele and Paul Thomas Anderson) – and in countless commercials. The rapper Nas has sampled this album. It is considered a prototype of Neo Soul : coming to define the genre and its singers. Riperton rarely signed anything. This copy is signed inside — and it’s not just signed – it’s inscribed the year and month it was released: November 1970. And this isn’t just any copy – it’s the promo. I would argue this is the only signed promo – or copy of Come to My Garden – in existence. No seams or binding slips. Gatefold cover looks good. A very presentable copy. Vinyl is strong: VG / VG + condition (nice gloss). One of the most important Neo Soul records ever pressed. One of the greatest singers of the 20th century.
