THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS IS THAT THE COVER IS AUTOGRAPHED BY PETE (CREDITED AS PETER) BEST. CRY FOR A SHADOW, 2. LET’S DANCE, 3. IF YOU LOVE ME BABY, 4. SWEET GEORGIA BROWN, 6. YA – YA, 8. THESE ARE ACTUAL RECORDINGS MADE BY THE BEATLES IN HAMBURG IN’61 W PETE BEST AND TONY SHERIDAN. This record was a grey-area, semi-legal release since counterfeited. The record was released by Savage Records with the catalog number BM 69 and this was the first only? Release by that label. Savage did not hold any rights to any of the recordings, which in America were covered under leasing agreements with Polydor to labels MGM and Atco. The photograph shown on the front cover, taken on December 17, 1961 came from the groups first photo session arranged by their recently hired manager Brian Epstein, who at this point, has not yet persuaded them to give up the leather. The text on the covers above the photographs has an error as it reads This is theThe Savage Young Beatles. The double usage of the word the was never corrected on any authentic copies. In order to bring maximum attention to The Beatles, Tony Sheridans name only appears in small text at the bottom of the front jacket along with the song titles. As can be seen in either photo above, he is listed as T. The back cover design on the original issues (pictured below) included liner notes with 2 incorrect pieces of information. First it mentions that the album contains two of The Beatles first instrumentals when Cry For A Shadow is the only instrumental on the record. Secondly, it refers to Pete Bests singing, and Pete does not sing on this record at all. Cover isn’t great; vinyl is excellent – but the value here is PETE BEST’s autograph on the cover which is clean and clear. From a smoke-free, mold-free, pet-free Beatles-lovin’ environment.
