Minnie Riperton’s first album – produced by Charles Stepney of Earth Wind and Fire fame – is Come to My Garden. GRT Records is the first printing or pressing of this album. The company (GRT) failed as a business, and the master recordings of this important album – WERE DESTROYED. That they were destroyed is critical, because the closest you can get to the sound that Riperton, Rudolph and Stepney intended: is this promo copy. Everything else thereafter was a copy of a copy of copy.. One song came from this album – Les Fleurs – that has been used by Hollywood film directors (Jordan Peele and Paul Thomas Anderson) – and in countless commercials. The rapper Nas has sampled this album. It is considered a prototype of Neo Soul : coming to define the genre and its singers. Riperton rarely signed anything. This copy is signed inside — and it’s not just signed – it’s inscribed the year and month it was released: November 1970. And this isn’t just any copy – it’s the promo. I would argue this is the only signed promo – or copy of Come to My Garden – in existence. No seams or binding slips. Gatefold cover looks good. A very presentable copy. Cathedral Stained Glass Stories LP, Like New, Autographed Copy, Progressive Rock. The roots of CATHEDRAL lie in a psychedelic band called Odyssey. When that band broke up in 1975, bassist Fred Callan, and mellotronist Tom Doncourt ventured on to form CATHEDRAL. The band was filled out by drummer Mercury Caronia IV, guitarist Rudy Perrone, and vocalist Paul Seal. They toured the Long Island club scene, and bravely decided to play original music. Instead of Pschedelic, they were taking more cues from the prog leaders of the time, the likes of King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, and Gentle Giant. What Tom Doncourt refers to as a “majestic” sound. 500 Copies were Printed. Extremely hard to find and only 2 were autographed back in the seventies.
